Summer Vacation
Summer Vacation…the feeling of freedom…the warm weather! With so much to do and so much to see, it tends to get expensive and in this economy everyone is looking for an expense break. So what can you do over the summer without going to far into your pockets? There are an abundance of options out there that you will be surprised to discover.
In many areas their are children’s museums and science museums to visit. Although they sometimes have a cost, you can always find specials in the local papers or get together with friends to get a group discount. If season passes are available, this is sometimes a better deal for the entire family, plus you get to enjoy the museum year round.
The park is another great place to spend a summer day. Many parks are filled with summer activities from basketball to paddle boats and hiking trails. There are an abundance of outdoor activities to keep the entire family busy. By my home the park even has a working horse that offers horse rides and riding lessons.
Another good idea that the movie theaters do in my town is offer discounted movies a couple of times a week. They will usually charge a reduced price for admission; ours cost a dollar on Tuesdays, and have reduced prices on refreshments like sodas and popcorn. The only catch is that the theater shows second run movies, but they are usually kids movies and we all know how kids love watching the same movie or TV show over and over and over again. It is a good, cheap excursion that can help keep you out of the hot afternoon sun.
Of course you should not overlook your very own backyard! Grilling and cooking on the back porch is the best way to spend an afternoon or dinner. Eating dinner outside while the sun is setting is one of my favorite memories of all times.
For those really long hot summer days, when you are just looking to cool off, a small backyard pool is something that can fit into almost any size budget. They are a great way to beat the heat and have some great summer fun with the kids.
