And seven of the nine songs were also released as singles before the actual album came out.

Unlike many artists, Jackson did not write his songs on paper and when he recorded he simply remembered these songs in his mind. Jones also told Jackson that thriller would not make it and be as successful as Off the wall, but Jackson went ahead and put it on the album anyways.
