Many people fail to earn money when blogging for money because they do not pick a profitable keyword. New Bloggers have the notion that the way to make money is to get a lot of traffic to their websites and hope that they click on the ads spewed all over the blog site. They think that lots of traffic equals lots of money, no matter the topic. Sometimes this works, however, you will need millions of visitors a day to have power in numbers make you money. Actually, it is easier to pick a niche that has earning potential.

Brainstorm some keyword terms and start writing down a list of all search terms that you think have value. Write down words that you know a lot about or have some interest in. It is usually easier to create a blog on a topic that you have interest in as you can create fresh content off the top of your head. If you have no idea where to start, go to an article directory and read some articles. This will give you an idea of what other people are writing about.

The first step in choosing a niche is to brainstorm keywords that you think are profitable. A good idea is to write down all words that you have knowledge about or have a passion for. If you are bike shop owner, maybe you should write down “bike repairs”. If you know a lot about search engine optimization, write it down on your brainstorm list (Note: I’m not saying these are good niche, this is just an example).

Once you create a list of keywords, start eliminating words that do not have any buying potential. Think of actions words like “buy” or “purchase”. Add these types of action words to your brainstorm keyword list and eliminate all the words that do not fit.

If you are confused on what types of words are “buyer” words, go to Google’s Keyword Tool and plug in your search term. The Keyword Tool will spit out a query of different variations of your keyword. This will show you what people are searching based off your main term.
